The History Department Presents: Tera W. Hunter is Professor of History and African-American Studies at Princeton University. She is currently a fellow at the National Humanities Center. She will be speaking about her new book, Bound in Wedlock: Slave and Free Black Marriage in the Nineteenth Century, a finalist for the Lincoln Prize of the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. Her first book, To ‘Joy My Freedom: Southern Black Women’s Lives and Labors After the Civil War, was the recipient of multiple awards and established her as one of the most prominent scholars of African American history and US women’s history.
